The National Junior Honor Society chapter of Most Holy Trinity Catholic School is a duly chartered and affiliated chapter of this prestigious national organization. Membership is open to those students who meet the required standards in five areas of evaluation: scholarship (3.0 GPA or higher; 2.5 for Resource students), service leadership, citizenship and character. Standards for selection are established by the national office of NJHS and have been revised to meet our local chapter needs. Students are selected to be members by an anonymous, 5-member Faculty Council, appointed by the principal, who bestows the honor upon qualified students on behalf of the faculty of our school each May. The mission of this organization shall be to offer students an opportunity to grow in leadership, to promote good citizenship, to encourage a high standard of academics, to promote school spirit, to demonstrate the practical application of democracy, and to advance the welfare of the school and its members in every possible manner.
Elections are held in May for the Executive Board of the upcoming school year. The Executive Board includes 6th through 8th graders. The president and vice president run as a team and campaign through advertisement and speeches. The remaining Executive Board members are appointed by the President and Vice President and Faculty Moderator. Elections for classroom representatives occur in September at the beginning of the school year. The representatives include 1st through 8th grade students.
Some of the events sponsored by the Student Council are: Pep Rallies, Community Service Opportunities, Catholic Schools Week activites and Family Picnic, Tiger Week, Buck a Jean days, Soup and Stations during Lent, Candy Cane Grams at Christmas, Love Notes for Valentines Day, PJ Day and an end of the year Water Day.
Through participation in Student Council, students gain a greater awareness of what it takes to be a good leader. They are given the opportunity to explore their creativity and plan activites to help make Most Holy Trinity an even better place to attend school. Students learn what it means to be responsible, to work as a team for the success of an event, and to be a model of good citizenship for the rest of the student body.
